Scholarships

The Rotary Club of Snow Hill supports education in our community by awarding scholarships to students. Details on our scholarship programs are as follows.

Larry Knudsen Service Scholarship

The Snow Hill Rotary Club has designated $6000 (one scholarship for $1500 renewable for 3 years) to be awarded to a Snow Hill High School graduate who is a role model in their class in the area of service to their school and community. The scholarship is named in honor of longtime Club member Larry Knudsen.

Laureitz “Larry” Knudsen was a member and past president of the Snow Hill Rotary Club. He was instrumental in the recruitment of many current Snow Hill Rotary Club members. He is fondly remembered by the club as an advocate for children and a proponent of community service. Larry served on the boards of Haven House Ministry and Furnace Town Museum, was an elder of Makemie Presbyterian Church, and an Eagle Scout. Larry was a proud veteran.

Laurel Anderson Nursing Scholarship

The Snow Hill Rotary Club has designated a one-time $2000 to be awarded to a 2021 Snow Hill High School Graduate who will also successfully complete a healthcare program at Worcester Technical High School (Nursing/Biomedical Science). The scholarship is named in honor of longtime Club member and nurse, Laurel Anderson.

Laurel Anderson was 1963 graduate of Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, MD, she graduated from the Washington Hospital Center School of Nursing in 1967. In her early nursing career she worked as a staff nurse at the Washington Hospital Center in and later worked in a Drug Abuse Rehabilitation Center in Washington, DC. Laurel joined the Air Force in 1977, serving at various military hospitals. In 1989, she received a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Wyoming. She retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1995. After her military career, she worked as a Staff Nurse at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury from 1996 until 2014. Laurel was a proud member of The Snow Hill Rotary Club and served in multiple leadership roles within the club.
