Scholarships
The Rotary Club of Snow Hill supports education in our community by awarding two types of scholarships to students.
The Larry Knudsen Service Scholarships
The Rotary Club of Snow Hill has designated $5,000 (two scholarships for $2,500 each) to be awarded each year to two Snow Hill High School graduates who have demonstrated outstanding service to their school and their community.
The scholarship is named in honor of Laureitz (Larry) Knudsen. Larry was a member and past President of the Rotary Club of Snow Hill, MD. As a youth advocate and proponent of community service, Larry exemplified the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self.” He was an Eagle Scout, a proud veteran, an Elder of Makemie Presbyterian Church, and served on the boards of Haven House and Furnace Town.
The Laurel Anderson Healthcare Scholarship
The Rotary Club of Snow Hill has designated a $2,000 scholarship to be awarded each year to a Snow Hill High School graduate who has successfully completed a course of study at the Worcester County Technical High School in nursing and/or biomedical science.
The scholarship is named in honor of longtime Club member and nurse, Laurel Anderson. Laurel was a member and past Secretary of the Rotary Club of Snow Hill, MD. She held degrees in nursing from the Washington Hospital Center School of Nursing and from the University of Wyoming. She served as a nurse in the US Air Force until her retirement to the Snow Hill area in 1995. She then worked as a nurse at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury until 2014. Throughout her long career in nursing and in her service to her nation and her community, Laurel exemplified the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self.”
