(September 10, 2024) On September 10, Club member T.J. Myers gave a presentation on food insecurity to the meeting of the Snow Hill Rotary Club. Food insecurity is when a family is uncertain of having enough food to meet the needs of all household members.
Snow Hill Rotary works to address food insecurity by supporting the local food pantry, contributing food items to the weekend backpack programs at Worcester County schools, and dedicating the 2024/25 District Grant to Club F.E.A.R, which provides mentorship after school and in the summer to at-risk youth.
Also speaking at the meeting were Club member Barb Hedges-Goettl who spoke about the Snow Hill Elementary School backpack program run by Makemie Methodist Church, and Cindy Cook who coordinates the distribution of backpacks at Cedar Chapel Special School. Backpack programs provide weekend breakfasts and lunches to school age children through community donations and volunteerism.
