(March 25, 2025) On March 25, Sarai Nwagbaracoha, Director of Public Affairs for the African American Heritage Society of Snow Hill and Surrounding Areas gave a presentation to the Snow Hill Rotary Club. AAHS, which was founded in 2020, is committed to the preservation of the life, history, and culture of African Americans in Snow Hill and the surrounding areas.
Sarai reviewed some of the recent efforts of AAHS including the Cool Spring Preservation Project which resulted in the restoration of a 19th century graveyard and the documentation of over 200 graves. The organization also successfully petitioned for the placement of an historic marker recognizing the history of the old Masonic Hall, which served as a social gathering place during segregation.
AAHS hosts an annual Harvest Festival in November and a day of service each year on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
