(October 22, 2024) On October 22, Kristine David spoke to the Snow Hill Rotary Club on Zoom from Providence, RI, about World Polio Day which is observed each year on October 26 (Jonas Salk’s birthday).
Rotary International has been involved in the campaign to eradicate polio for over fifty years. While many countries have had success with vaccination programs to suppress polio transmission, the danger of outbreaks remains today especially in areas of military conflict. The highest incidence of the disease in 2024 is found in Afghanistan and Pakistan. However, the potential an outbreak is a reality anywhere including in the United States.
In addition to being the Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Providence, Kristine is the District 7950 PolioPlus Society Chair and Past District 7950 Governor 2015-2016.
