(January 28, 2025) On January 28, Joan Maloof of the Old Growth Forest Network spoke to the Snow Hill Rotary Club about the importance of preserving areas with mature, native trees. The Network’s goal is to locate and designate at least one protected forest in every county in the United States that can sustain a native forest. There are currently only 19 acres of protected forest east of the Chesapeake in Maryland.
Joan is a retired Salisbury University faculty member who specializes in Biology and Environmental Science. She has authored several books on old growth forests and has lectured on the topic across the country.
