Sharing
RYLA Experiences
On February 25 the Snow Hill Rotary Club met at Snow Hill High School where Ashley Hare and DeShawn Hall, both students at the School, shared their experiences from the recent Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) conference. The RYLA event, which was held in Ocean City, Md., Feb. 15-16, provides
the opportunity for students from the region to develop leadership and team
building skills. Ashley reported that her group focused on designing a project in
which students would learn about healthy foods by hands-on gardening. DeShawn
spoke about the “egg drop” activity in which groups work together to design a
package that will protect an egg from breaking when dropped from the upper floors
of the building. His engineering studies came in handy as he suggested the
design for a paper parachute the accomplished the task.
